How to Clean the Finish on Your Stainless Steel Vacuum Food Sealer

0

If you are looking for ways to save money on your food bills, getting a vacuum sealer is a great way to do it because you can seal foods to store them for months, and they will still taste as fresh as they did the day they were sealed. Many of the newer vacuum food sealers have stainless steel housings, and you may be wondering, “How do I clean the finish of my vacuum food sealer?” Here are some tips that will help.

Warm Water

When you simply want to wipe down the surface of your vacuum food sealer, all you really need is a soft cloth and warm water. This is actually the safest way to clean stainless steel without doing any damage to the surface, and when there isn’t a lot of dirt to get rid of. Make sure that after you wipe the machine down that you dry the surface with a dry, soft cloth, because water will leave marks on the stainless steel due to the mineral content in the water. You can also use microfiber cloths to clean stainless steel. These are ideal for stainless steel, because they will absorb the water without leaving any scratches.

Mild Detergents

When there is dirt on your vacuum sealer that won’t come off with warm water and a cloth, you need to break out a mild detergent to do the job. Mix a little bit of the detergent in warm water and make it sudsy, then apply the soapy water with a soft cloth and wipe the dirt away. Once you have cleaned the surface, rinse the cloth out with clear, warm water and wipe the surface down again to get rid of any detergent residue. Again, make sure that you use a dry cloth or a microfiber cloth to wipe the machine down after it has been cleaned, to make sure that there are no wet spots.

Glass Cleaners

One of the things that many people dislike about stainless steel kitchen appliances is that they show every little mark, especially fingerprints. But, you can easily remove fingerprints simply by using a mild glass cleaner or even regular ammonia. Do not spray the cleaning product directly on the vacuum sealer. Instead, spray it onto a soft cleaning cloth, and then wipe the machine down with the damp cloth. Be sure to wipe in circular movements to get rid of fingerprints. Rinse with clear, warm water, and then wipe down with a dry cloth to get rid of any dampness.

Stainless Steel Cleaners

There may be occasions when you need to polish your stainless steel vacuum food sealer. For instance, if there are any scratches, a polish may be just what you need to get rid of them, or at least minimize their appearance. And, the polish will give the appliance a lovely shine. Be sure to always follow the directions as noted on the cleaner bottle, and do a test spot on the back of the machine to make sure that the cleaner isn’t too abrasive. As with soap and glass cleaners, be sure to wipe the machine down with a damp cloth after cleaning, and dry with a dry cloth.
